Participants will receive an overview of GET Waggle, a software pilot program that we will be available next year.  GET Waggle is a smart practice program (for math and ELA, grades 3-8) that is built on skills and standards.  It gives students a safe place to reinforce and practice the skills that make up the CCGPS by providing personalized instruction through a series of scaffolded hints and feedback. Using item types from released Common Core assessment prototypes, GET Waggle familiarizes students with the items types they will encounter on the new state assessments.  Teachers will benefit from the rich amount of data that shows growth around skills and standards through plain language reports.  Teachers can also access a  library of content and  assign differentiated content right from the reporting screen.  A winner of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Literacy Challenge grant, GET Waggle is all about helping students grapple with their learning, discover breakthrough moments and discover that they can.  To learn more, go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn-Y-_tBUwk for the student and teacher experience and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLzs3931mdQ for the admin experience.

We also know the result of that is an even more confused child and a frustrated parent that doesn't understand why we aren't teaching the "traditional" way. In this session, attendees will learn how to use screencasting to provide homework help to students and parents that reinforces the methods and vocabulary used in class. We will also discuss other uses for screencasting including differentiation in class, helping students with special needs, preparing for field trips, etc, and ways to disseminate the videos to students and parents using YouTube, Google Drive and Remind 101 (texting).

Beyond Walls: Connecting Your Classroom with the World (Room: D208)
Limited Capacity seats available

Sometimes in our classrooms we feel like we are alone, but there's a whole world of experts and opportunities out there just waiting for classrooms to connect with. What is it like to connect students with 22 states, 2 countries, 50 separate locations, and 9 authors in one week? Can students really give developers tips to improve the apps they are using in schools? What can happen when students in 2 schools over 900 miles apart collaborate on a regular basis? In this session, participants will see multiple collaborative experiences where Skype and Google Hangouts were used to connect students with other students, experts, developers, and authors around the world. In addition, the presenter will break down the process of how these experiences were planned and what technology tools were used in the process. If time allows, participants will get to explore Google Hangouts and Skype in the Classroom.

Online Assessment: Automatically Grade and Email Results of Multiple Choice Assessments via Google Forms (Room: D216)
Limited Capacity seats available

Teachers will learn how to get a quiz, whether a hard copy or electronic copy, broken up by question via snipping tool, and inserted into a google form (including images). They will create a multiple choice assessment that we will then show them how to have google automatically score. Along with grading, an email will be sent to the person taking the quiz containing an explanation or narrative with each question. The explanation could be a lesson or concept they need to work on, a step by step process to solve that problem, or even links to videos or websites for students to go to. We will also share how we used this script along with quizzes to differentiate our unit reviews. We did this by giving a short pre-test and having the program email their results immediately after completion with a lesson that students needed to do based off their score. Lessons were posted to our website for easy access. Each lesson had it's own assessment (in google form with the described script) that students could take at any time with immediate feedback after submission. This approach allowed for each student to work on their area of need based on feedback through the individual lessons at a self-directed pace

Limited Capacity seats available
